Switching between Genki and Minna
Find a starting point with skill checks rather than an assumed chapter-number equivalence.
Identify the destination volume
Finishing Genki I does not automatically establish readiness for Minna Elementary II. Confirm whether II means Shokyu/Elementary II or Chukyu/Intermediate, then inspect the assigned task. Compare required forms and vocabulary rather than equating chapter numbers across courses.
Check words, forms and tasks separately
Read a short new passage and identify who does what, hear one fact, then produce two connected sentences without the model. Repair a few unfamiliar words locally. At Minna Lesson 15, you may consult Genki for an explanation of a known item, but locate it by pattern rather than running a second chapter schedule.
Test the routine before replacing the course
If drills work but feel monotonous, try a personal exchange or new listening sample. When every new book stops after five lessons, record the specific blocker: unreadable explanations, review workload or missing feedback. Test one change over a week before choosing a new course.
Example
Transition log: forms and reading work, but listening misses the time; continue a manageable reading task while repairing time comprehension rather than restarting all beginner work.
Check your understanding
Classify a new task as manageable, locally blocked or not independently doable.
Explanation
The starting point follows your attempts, not a book title or chapter label.
