Reviewing JLPT mistakes with your textbook

Classify the error, find the related pattern or information task and check a fresh item.

Keep the error reason

Retain the first choice and reason, then classify word knowledge, form, relation, missed condition or task instruction. In reading, separate the sentence supporting the answer from your inference. Avoid turning every mistake into a card containing only the correct option.

Locate by form or task

For particles, inspect learned patterns, noun roles and a contrast pair; for inflection, identify the predicate type. Find short negative, time or changed-decision audio for condition errors. Use indexes and pattern tables rather than paging through a volume. Write a reason that guides another choice.

Use a targeted fresh check

If the same form causes errors across three sets, pause full practice tests and review that point in the textbook. After a break, try it without the answer, then attempt a similar question with different information. If you understand listening only after reading the transcript, recheck with the transcript hidden. A better answer to a fresh question suggests the practice helped; memorising the original answer does not resolve the cause.

Example

Original log: に chosen because at was treated as one rule; compare 「学校にいます/学校で勉強します」, then test a library context.

Check your understanding

Write first reason → error → textbook task → fresh check for one item.

Explanation

Connect all four steps; the correct option alone cannot identify what to recheck.
