Using textbook patterns for everyday follow-ups
Practise quantity, time, place and confirmation when a reply does not follow your script.
Define the information you need
After a price question, you may need quantity or discount details. For food, state item, amount and essential adjustments rather than translating a long paragraph. In directions, confirm the next step instead of memorising the whole route. Use learned numbers, time and place forms for one achievable result.
Add an unexpected reply
Change one reply detail, such as quantity or appointment day. Give your first interpretation and then confirm with a learned question. When only station is understood, request the last step again rather than guess the remaining directions. Confirmation supports the task better than pretending comprehension.
Use a short repair phrase
Use basic requests such as 「もう一度お願いします」or 「ゆっくりお願いします」and identify the part needing repetition. A residence follow-up after an introduction needs its own place response, not another recital. Keep new situations short and seek feedback on relationship-sensitive wording.
Example
Original confirmation: 「二つですか。」「はい、二つです。」or 「土曜日の三時ですか。」after hearing Saturday. Preserve quantity, date and time, not just a keyword.
Check your understanding
Change a reply to a new quantity or time and practise one confirmation.
Explanation
Verify one specific fact and recover with a repetition request when needed rather than only perform a fluent opening.
